SN: Bring me back to the time when the band was first signed with Columbia Records. What were the band’s initial feelings??
Bryan Laurenson: “Hesitation. We had so many friends that were screwed by major labels. We’ve enjoyed a lot of artistic freedom on an indie label. It went so well for so long.”
SN: How has My Space affected the band’s success—if at all??
BL: “We built most of our fan base by our touring. Before My Space there was MP3.com and that was really helpful when we first were getting started with booking our own shows and networking with other bands. I really don’t keep up with My Space as much, but it definitely helps.”
SN: How is it opening for Switchfoot??
BL: “It’s fun. This is the second time we toured with them. They’re great guys and the fans have been really excited.”
