A Taste Of The Goof Life

I had a taste of the good life when I saw Three Days Grace, Chevelle and Flyleaf perform at The Mohegan Sun Arena on February 08th. I have been listening to Three Days Grace and Flyleaf’s albums a lot these days and it was beyond amazing hearing their new songs live.

Before the show I was invited by my sister to attend a meet n greet with Three Days Grace. It was a bit hectic for us because the band was running behind and a few meet n greets were combined together. It was a lot of fun, but I was amazed that a lot of the fans didn’t seem to speak to them a lot, and then there were a few younger fans that were so excited to meet them you would have thought the backstreet boys were there! My sister and I took the opportunity to chat it up with them and they truly seem like genuine down to earth guys. I love that they are still fan friendly and still take time to do meet n greets before the show. Their fame is increasing and they still show that they care about their fans.

On to the show! Flyleaf opened up the night and I was impressed with how much better their live performance is. They brought a lot of energy and positive emotions to the stage. That is a main reason why I love Flyleaf. I am always blown away by the crazy jumps that their bass player Pat Seals is always doing throughout their set. Flyleaf played a good mixture of songs off of their two albums. Lead vocalist Lacey stopped between songs to express her feelings to the crowd. One of her comments before singing “Arise” (the last song off of their latest album “Memento Mori”) was that everyone is beautiful in their own way and encouraged everyone to realize it.

Chevelle hit the stage next. Their sound was big and amazing. Chevelle is a band that seems to focus more on the music during their performance. They are flawless with their sound, their energy is there, but they bring it more through their musical performance vs their “physical performance.” This band gets ripped a lot on their “boring performance,” but I think differently. They may not hop all over the stage to get the crowd pumping, but they know how to bring it musically. I saw some moshing during “Send The Pain Below.” The crowd was into them and raising some hell on the floor!

Finally after the lovely talented Chevelle closed out their set it was time for Three Days Grace to hit the stage. When the lights went out the sound of sirens that start off their song “Someone Who Cares” off their latest album “Life Starts Now” filled the arena. I immidiatly was excited because I thought they were going to start with “Someone Who Cares” (my absolute favorite song off the record) and I wanted to get up out of my seat, but as I looked around no one was standing. I thought to myself “what the F*&^k?” To my dismay they started out with “Break” not “Someone Who Cares.” I was tricked, but still excited wanting to jump out of my seat.

Right away lead vocalist Adam Gontier came over to the side of the venue where I was SITTING to tell us to get the hell up, still only a few of us got up. It was frustrating for me; I can’t imagine what Adam was thinking. So Adam came over again and told everyone to get up again and FINALLY everyone got off their asses!

Another highlight of their set was when they toned the energy down a little to perform “Last to Know.” Their drummer, Neil, was playing the keyboard at the beginning of the song and I wondered how he was going to break into the drumming part of the song once the piano/keyboard part was over…his drum kit moved in a circle, that’s how! I know, I am easily entertained, but I thought it was cool and well thought out to have his drums rotate like that, especially for one song. Neil also did a drum/keyboard solo.

I must mention that pyros were involved in the show!

Three Days Grace has definitely come a long ways since they first started.  Their performance continues to grow along with their lyrics and music.

“All I want is a little of the good life, all I need is to have a good time” and that is exactly what Three Days Grace, Flyleaf  and Chevelle did for me that night.
