Music is a very powerful extension of emotion from an artist to their fans. And Cole Swindell’s fifth number one single “You Should Be Here” is one of those rare gems that has touched country fans to their cores. “You Should Be Here” is off of Swindell’s highly anticipated sophomore album titled after the track, which will be released on May 6th.
“You Should Be Here” Swindell cowrote with Ashley Gorley is about “missing a loved one and wishing they could be there with you to experience milestones and make memories,” Swindell said in a recent press release. Swindell has started a universal movement on social media with the song’s name hash tagged #YouShouldBeHere. The hashtag phrase has taken Instagram, Facebook and Twitter by storm with fans sharing their stories about being separated from their loved ones by distance and other circumstances.
Swindell told Billboard “This song is so special to me, and just hearing fans’ stories and the way country radio has embraced it is amazing. I’m a lucky guy and I know my Dad is smiling down right now, so proud.”
According to one of Swindell’s official press releases, “You Should Be Here” has sold over 402,000 copies and has had 20 million total streams.
Swindell is known for paying tribute to the United States service men and women serving over seas at his shows because of lyrics about them in one of his other number one hits “Ain’t Worth the Whisky.” It is a touching part of his performance leaving everyone in the audience patriotic and thinking of our troops. And now thanks to Swindell teaming up with the USO for their 75th anniversary, fans can gift his new album through the whole month of May to an active duty service member. Fans being able to gift his upcoming album is only phase one of Swindell giving back to his country, Swindell is planning on embarking on a USO tour in 2016.
May is known as Military Appreciation month and giving the gift of new music to one of our troops can make their day so much brighter! Record release day is an exciting day for musicians and their fans and now fans can spread their love of Swindell’s music while doing a good deed. Copies purchased by Swindell’s fans will be distributed to the troops via the USO. And on top of giving “You Should Be Here” as a gift, $1 from every album gifted will be donated to the USO.
One more way Swindell is trying to connect his fans to the military is by encouraging fans to write a supportive message to our troops with the USO’s digital platform Campaign to Connect. Swindell wants to help the USO make their goal to send one million messages of support to our troops and their families using his unique URL https://www.uso.org/message/coleswindell
