the
exies "Inertia"
Catchy And Smooth, But Still Rocks
by Rebecca Clark
The exies’ sophomore album “Inertia” is jam-packed with non-stop melodic rock mixed with massive radio-friendly appeal. The album is catchy and smooth, but still rocks.
Kicking off the album with their single “My Goddess,” which is full on upbeat rock containing lyrics that reflect the ruins due to the lack of self-discovery. “Now you see what you get when you lose yourself, what you get when you don’t know who you are.” “My Goddess” is sure to get the listener into a dancing frenzy.
Melodic rock ballads such as “Creeper Kamikaze” are also found on the album. “Creeper Kamikaze” has melodic guitar riffs blended with string instruments. The strings are a satisfying touch and add to the songs making them flow.
Pulsating bass riff start off “Without” and then an explosion of catchy beats and lyrics take off. “I gotta get gone get outta the way, I gotta get gone get outta the way. I gotta get gone get gone” are the catchy lyrics reiterated throughout the song. “I m feeling no meaning without you, I’ve lost all in myself. I’m searching for a reason without you,” are the root lyrics to “Without.” It is a straightforward explanation of what a break up emotionally feels like.
Overall “Inertia” is a great rock album. The exies can be serious with hard-hitting lyrics and release them into revitalizing up beat rock and roll. The exies have a unique sound and style of writing that is definitely worth checking out. Be sure and go buy your copy of “Inertia” in stores January 7, 2003!
