Snowdogs "Deep Cuts, Fast Remedies"

Amusing Lyrics and Catchy Guitar Riffs

by Rebecca Clark

UK’s Snowdogs are ambushing the US on January 28, 2003, starting off the year right with their sophomore album “Deep Cuts, Fast Remedies.”

Snowdogs are a pop/punk band that have songs with peppy punk ass beats.

Toning the album down a notch with “End of the world,” being more melodic rock rather than punk. It has easygoing rhythms and refined vocals, it is a pleasant surprise on the album.

“Hour in the Sunshine” also adds to the diversity of sound found on the album. Snowdogs dip into the punk/ska genre with trumpets playing in the background (reminding me of Reel Big Fish). The punk remake of Paul Simons “Boy in the Bubble” has catchy guitar riffs and adds to the album and is a crazy and fresh new sound to the song..

One of my favorite songs “Amazon,” which is another slower song on the album, but is full of lyrics that about how life can be unfair “I work like a dog but I’m getting nowhere, I pray to my god, but he really don’t care, survive the knocks roll with the punches.” Snowdog’s have a silly side in their lyrical writing that is peppered in their songs. Tossed in “Amazon” is a verse that just made me laugh “Hey listen DJ, your attitude sucks, I have had a hard day, just play something that rocks, no rap about the hoes and bitches, dumb shit about dance remixes.”

Snowdogs’ album “Deep cuts, Fast Remedies” is definitely a fast remedy for any starving punk/pop fan. Go out and pick up your copy today! (well on January 28th!)
